Mental Health

AA, NA, JA, DA, MADA, ADHD and many other acronyms take care of our daily life, even in soap operas. All self-help groups are based, generally in the booklet of the 12 steps or philosophy, introduced by Alcoholics Anonymous.

They have in common the search day after day control of addictions, compulsive shopping is an impulse disorder (debtors anonymous or AD), pathological gambling (JA), obsessive-compulsive disorder that is characterized by those repetitive and intrusive thoughts, uncontrollable by the person, who despite having clear because of its absurdities, can not control them and seeks to carry out rituals or "manias," in order to relieve anxiety or distress caused by them. Currently, we have the so-called women who love other people, MADA, and to the anonymous men who love too much, the HADA.

The intentions, functions, and objectives of these self-help groups are the best possible, however, many patients with serious mental disorders end up using, for reasons of anonymity provided to existing and fads, only this therapeutic method, which can lead to consequences disastrous.

In the area of ??mental health, unfortunately - despite all the media coverage and clarity in recent times-still predominate misinformation or distorted information, which deepen the pillars of prejudice.

Treatment of mental disorders require multidisciplinary treatment

Treatment of mental disorders, whether mood, anxiety, addictions and personality disorders, require a multidisciplinary approach, with the involvement of psychologists and psychiatrists. The label of madness has to give its space to the search for balance and mental well-being. Find a psychiatrist to treat clinical depression or panic disorder is not synonymous, ever to admit involvement in psychiatric disorders known as "madness" in which the psychosis characterized by distortions of content and structure of thought, and perception of stimuli auditory and visual, not that they are present, are the major representatives. Even schizophrenia, which is one of the existing types of psychosis, with the appropriate treatments, modern and correct, you may return the quality of life and dignity to those patients suffering with good psychosocial adjustment.

In medicine as a whole, the early detection of disease, and of course, the correct treatment effectively prevent it from becoming chronic or intractable. I get in my office, more and more difficult to treat psychiatric cases and evolution, as were several years without proper treatment, before the search specialist's correct. Even some medical colleagues in other specialties are afraid to send their patients to professionals in mental health, scared that behind this statement, there is a connotation that they may be implying that the person in question is "crazy ".

Behind the women who love too much (MADA), we have several serious psychiatric diagnoses, masked and disguised socially. Of course, these self-help groups, it is impossible to draw a psychological profile, individual and family, the woman simply treated as "jealous" or "passionate." It is not ever the passion of wanting to pathologize or other universal feeling of the human being, just take enough care.

Many women who love other people are depressed, anxious or with significant personality disorders deserve an appropriate psychotherapeutic approach by professionals specializing in mental health. The press itself unwittingly ends up illustrating the bizarre mental disorders, prevalent in a minority, threatening to most people with mild and moderate, to seek a psychiatrist.

Although sharing the suffering and problems with an individual group have beneficial results, it is obvious that this is incomplete and unsatisfactory.

I am afraid that this superficiality, in addressing psychiatric conditions, a disservice to the entire community. It's time to take professional and lay, all their masks.
